The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) has awarded $20 million in conservation grants to restore, enhance, and protect longleaf pine forests across nine southern states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. The Orton Foundation, The Moore Charitable Foundation’s North Carolina affiliate, is among 12 funding partners supporting the grants, awarded through NFWF’s Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund. The grants will leverage more than $18.6 million in matching contributions, for a total conservation impact of $38.6 million. The funding will support the planting of millions of longleaf pine seedlings, expand the use of prescribed fire across the region, and help private landowners protect this critical habitat.
