The Bahamas Mangrove Alliance (BMA) announced its founding at an Earth Day community planting event on April 22, 2023. The BMA is founded by the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, the Perry Institute for Marine Science, and Waterkeepers Bahamas with support from the Moore Bahamas Foundation, and will work to protect and restore mangrove habitats across the Bahamas by engaging local communities through education and grassroots advocacy. Mangroves in the Bahamas are critical to biodiversity and serve as nurseries and spawning grounds for up to 70% of the country’s ecologically and commercially important marine life.
