Museum at Historic North Carolina Burial Site Opens to Honor African-American History and Contributions with Grant Support from Orton Foundation
A new outdoor interpretive museum opened at the John N. Smith cemetery to honor nearly 2,000 African-Americans who were essential in establishing the Cape Fear River basin’s rich culture and history. Funding for the project in Southport, North Carolina—provided by the Orton Foundation—also included renovations made to the cemetery.
