On World Mangrove Day, the Bahamas Mangrove Alliance (BMA) and its coalition partners reaffirmed their goal of planting one million mangroves across The Bahamas by the end of next year in response to the widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian in 2019. The Alliance, which includes Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, Perry Institute for Marine Science, Waterkeepers Bahamas, FRIENDS of the Environment, and Cape Eleuthera Institute, is working together with The Nature Conservancy’s Northern Caribbean Programme, the Bahamas National Trust, the Ministry of Environment and its Forestry Unit, Blue Action Lab, and the Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute to form the Northern Bahamas Mangrove Restoration Project (NBMRP). With support from the Moore Bahamas Foundation, this collaborative effort focuses on nature-based solutions that will restore critical habitats and strengthen community resilience.
