Towncreek Vision Corporation (TCVC) works to ensure a better future for the youth and senior citizens of the Leland/Towncreek community of Brunswick County, North Carolina. By implementing various community enrichment programs—including brick masonry training programs, a summer food program for children, a food pantry, sports programs, after-school tutoring and summer camps—TCVC strives to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of community members of all ages. TCVC utilizes the time and talents of retired citizens within the community to teach valuable skills and pass on life lessons to younger generations.

“The Orton Foundation’s grant is a vitally important investment in this grassroots organization,” said Mikki Sager, Director of The Conservation Fund’s Resourceful Communities program. “TCVC’s programs have made such a difference in Brunswick County, and this support is strengthening their effectiveness and growing their reach and impacts.”

“We are grateful to The Orton Foundation for their support, which will allow us to better equip the youth of our community with the tools they need to succeed,” said Carl Parker, a member of TCVC. “TCVC would like to complete a recreation and community center to give local residents the opportunity to learn industrial, commercial and residential skills as well as how to become a voting citizen. It will also provide a space for events and opportunities to learn more about the history of the community.”

Support from The Orton Foundation will enable TCVC to grow their Board of Directors; assess community assets and goals; conduct oral history interviews; and develop a business plan. Additional activities will include marketing support, grant writing and oral history workshops, and connections to funders, partners and other resources.

“We are proud to support The Conservation Fund in the critical effort to establish a shared historical record for the Towncreek community,” said Louis Bacon, Founder and Chairman of The Moore Charitable Foundation and its affiliates.
